This is Sotetsu Fresa Inn Yokohama-Totsuka!
We are already approaching the first month of 2025.
February is the shortest month of the year, and it feels like the month has passed before you know it.
So I want to cherish each and every day!
Now, February is surprisingly a month full of events, such as Setsubun and Valentine's Day!
First of all, let's talk about Setsubun. This year, Setsubun falls on February 2nd!
Setsubun is usually celebrated on February 3rd, but this year it is on February 2nd, so please be careful not to make a mistake.
But...why is Setsubun on February 2nd this year?
I'm sure some of you have thought the same!
The answer is simply because it doesn't take the Earth exactly 365 days to orbit the Sun.
To explain step by step, firstly, Setsubun does not necessarily fall on February 3rd.
However, this year's Setsubun has not been shifted due to the day of the week or anything like that.
The reason why Setsubun falls on February 3rd every year is because February 3rd is the day before the beginning of spring!
Setsubun was originally an event to separate the seasons, held the day before Risshun (February 4th), the first day of spring.
In other words, Setsubun is the day that marks the dividing line between winter and spring!
Modern time is Non-members determined by the Gregorian calendar, which defines a year as 365 days.
A cycle of 365 days refers to the time it takes for the Earth to orbit the Sun.
However, the Earth does not revolve around the Sun exactly every 365 days.
There might be a small error.
To correct this error, we have a leap year every four years and a leap second every few years.
For the same reason, due to the adjustment of the relative positions of the sun and the earth, the beginning of spring this year will be on February 3rd, and therefore Setsubun this year will be on February 2nd.
...I guess I talked a little difficult. Did you understand? (lol)
That was a long introduction, but when it comes to Setsubun, it's all about Ehomaki!
So this year it will only be available on Sunday, February 2nd!
We will be offering a special limited number of Ehomaki rolls, which are served at Sotetsu Rosen on our Breakfast Menu!
It is customary to eat Ehomaki every year while facing the direction of that year's lucky direction, that is, the direction of Toshitokujin, the god who governs financial luck and good fortune, without looking away and finishing the rolled sushi while making a wish to the god.
And this year's lucky direction is southwest!
At our hotel, the television in the Breakfast Venue faces southwest.
We hope you will all watch the program and enjoy this special Ehomaki!
Please note that the hotel is currently undergoing renovation work.
The coin laundries and vending machines around the lounge on the 3rd floor leading to the Breakfast Venue are currently unavailable.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
