It's now October.
As October approaches, it gradually begins to feel like the year is almost over.
Now that the month is changing, we will be introducing the illustrations for each month as per usual!
This month too, the front staff themselves hand-drawn the designs.
As October naturally has a strong image of Halloween, I decided to draw a Halloween illustration.
However, the image says "Octover"...
Yes, the spelling in this illustration is wrong!
The spelling here has been changed on purpose.
Halloween is an event that includes many horror elements.
So I decided to use the English word "Over" which means "end" or "finish", like "game over", to come up with "Octover" lol
And let's not forget, our mascot, "Fresser Panda-kun", will be getting a new uniform!!
Hmm, cute lol
There are also jack-o'-lanterns on either side.
The familiar pumpkin of Halloween is called a "Jack-o'-Lantern."
It is said that the origin of this tradition is from a British legend in which an unknown man holds a pumpkin lantern that invites people to the afterlife.
In 17th century England, it was customary to call a man whose name you did not know "Jack."
It's similar to what we call "Nameless Gonbei" in Japan.
And because it is the lantern that Jack holds, it came to be called "Jack o'lantern"!
So technically, pumpkins are just lanterns lol
And Halloween itself was originally a harvest festival.
From there, various religions mixed together, cultures such as animal and plant sacrifices were introduced, and horror elements were incorporated.
Nowadays, it is known as the day when children go from house to house saying "trick or treat" in order to get candy!
This brings back memories. I grew up overseas, so every Halloween, kids would ring the doorbell and say "Trick or treat" lol
Also, in Japan these days, Halloween is more associated with dressing up...or rather, cosplay.
Are Shibuya and Ikebukuro famous?
It seems like there are a lot of people in costume, including cosplay that has nothing to do with horror elements.
...I've never been to Shibuya or Ikebukuro on Halloween, so I don't know what they do there specifically, but I've heard that a huge number of people flock there lol
Will you all be dressing up in any costumes for Halloween?
