Hello everyone!
This is Sotetsu Fresa Inn Yokohama-Totsuka!

Time flies and it's already May.
Then the rainy season comes, then summer... somehow it feels like each year gets shorter (´;ω;`)

In fact, I think it’s not entirely wrong to feel that way.
The reason is that I am actually a qualified psychological counselor.

Have you heard of "Jane's Law"?

Janet's law is a psychological explanation for the phenomenon that each year feels shorter with each passing year, proposed by the French philosopher Paul Janet in the 19th century.

Subjectively, older people feel a year is shorter, while younger people feel it is longer.
This is explained in a very plausible way in Janet's Law.

For example, I am 26 years old this year, but how long is a year for me?
The simple and plausible answer is "1/26" the length.

For me, a year is currently 1/26th as long.

On the other hand, my younger brother is 14 years old this year. How long is a year for him?

See that? Yes, it's 1/14th the length.

Naturally, between "1/26" and "1/14," 1/26 is shorter and 1/14 is longer.
Wouldn't it be easier to understand if it were a fraction?

1/26 and 1/14
Is it easy to understand? Lol

Anyway, this idea of dividing one year by your age is Janet's Law.
Isn't it interesting? Personally, I think this is a very reasonable and convincing law!

By the way, as an aside, fractions can be very confusing between Japanese and English.
In Japanese, 1/26 is said as "1/26."

In English we say "1 over 26."
Did you understand?

In Japanese, fractions are read from the "lower number" first, but in English they are read from the "higher number" first!

As someone who grew up overseas, I often read fractions backwards when I say them in Japanese.

It's confusing, isn't it? Yes, that was just a digression haha

I've talked a bit about something that doesn't really make sense, but anyway, it's already May!
Before we knew it, the April illustration of Fresher Panda on the front desk had been changed to the May one of a carp streamer and a rising dragon.

This time I also drew

In Japan, carp streamers are put up on the 5th of May, which is Boys' Day.
This is because carp streamers are considered very auspicious.

Carp streamers are flown by parents wishing for their children to succeed and grow up healthy, and in keeping with the origins of the carp climbing a waterfall and the Chinese legend of the Dragon Gate, the carp continue to swim against the rapids of the waterfall until they transform into dragons and swim, or rather rise, into the sky.

I wish for everyone's health and growth, and of course my own growth as well.

We still have some vacancies during Golden Week.
If you are considering a relaxing hotel stay to soothe your tired body and mind after sightseeing in Yokohama, we hope you will consider staying at the Sotetsu Fresa Inn Yokohama-Totsuka.
