This is Sotetsu Fresa Inn Yokohama-Totsuka!
February 14th is, of course, Valentine's Day.
Fresher Panda was also there to greet us in a Valentine's Day costume!
Valentine's Day is known as the day to give chocolates and other sweets to your lover, crush, husband or wife.
Valentine's Day originally came from the celebration of the priest Valentinus (or Valentine), who was executed on February 14, 269 AD.
The Roman Emperor at the time, Claudius II, believed that young men were reluctant to go to war because they did not want to be separated from their families and lovers back home, and so banned marriage.
And the Christian priest Valentine, who felt sorry for young men being sent off to war without being able to marry, is said to have secretly performed weddings for young soldiers.
When the emperor found out about this, he questioned Valentinus and ordered him never to disobey the law again, but Valentinus did not obey.
He was executed by the emperor. After his death, Valentinus became widely known as a saint called "Saint Valentine," and this is said to be the beginning of Valentine's Day.
I graduated from school overseas, and I learned that in other countries, lovers are called Valentines!
So when confessing your love on Valentine's Day, you say "Be My Valentine," which means "Please be my lover."
Isn't that interesting?
In Japan, it is known as the day when women give sweets to the men they are in love with, but in fact this is only true in Japan; overseas, it is known as the day when both men and women give flowers and sweets to the person they are in love with.
Therefore, White Day is a culture unique to Japan.
The meaning of the sweets given actually varies depending on the type.
Chocolate means "I feel the same as you"
Macarons mean "You are special"
Cookie says "Let's be friends"
Marshmallow says "I hate you"
These are just a few examples, but the meanings of each sweet are very different.
If you give marshmallows without knowing, it may give the person you like the wrong idea.
If you were considering giving marshmallows for White Day, please take note.
So, what kind of sweet Valentine's Day did I have?
I was watching the Queen concert at Tokyo Dome from an arena seat.
It was truly breathtaking.
Guitarists Brian May and Roger Taylor are both 76 and 77 years old this year, respectively, but their performances showed no signs of aging at all!
Adam Lambert's singing voice is not inferior to, and is reminiscent of, Freddie Mercury, with his incredible singing ability and vocal range.
I was truly satisfied with the spectacular performance!
It looks like a T-shirt from the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody"... lol
The Queen documentary film "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a huge hit both in Japan and around the world.
This T-shirt is "BUFFETMAN RHAPSADY"
Yes, I'm not a bohemian, I'm a buffet man lol
As an aside, when I think of bohemian music, I think of Yuki Katsuragi rather than Queen haha
Although it is not shown in the image, since he was a buffet man, the illustration shows Freddie Mercury holding a fork with a fish on it high in the air, rather than a microphone.
I personally really like it lol
We had the best Valentine's Day ever with such an amazing live show!
I have now fully recovered and look forward to welcoming you back to the front desk with my biggest smile.
We appreciate your continued support for Sotetsu Fresa Inn Yokohama-Totsuka.
